About Us The Hacker Pimps is an independent security research think tank. This team is made up of idiot savants who think they know their way around computers and networks. The group represents a wide range of skill sets, which gives the Hacker Pimps the ability to do research in many areas. Much of the group is made up of security professionals and administrators who dedicate their free time to working on problems in the security community. Many members of the group are public speakers and can be seen speaking at many different forums. The group was formed on the basis of unity and information sharing. Early on in the group's history a couple of asshats tried to bring their flavor of drama into the group and tarnish its name. These members were quickly dealt with and the senior members of the group created new membership guidelines. Above all, trust and ingenuity are among the top traits that the group looks for in potential members. The group holds an annual meeting every year at DefCon to discuss the group's direction and future projects. The Hacker Pimps are the creators of a concept called Orange Hat Hacking, a completely ridiculous concept of wearing a blinding orange hat while hacking. This concept pokes fun at the notion of classifying hackers by the color of hat they wear ;) This is why sometimes, late at night at hacker conferences, you can see members of the Hacker Pimps wearing actual orange hats.
